Masking tools

They work together with the red mask and are available in Subject Edit Mode only.
 
The "Auto" checkbox enables the red mask actions. When checked, the red mask will be applied automatically for the current selection.

If "Auto" is unchecked, then the standard copy/cut/paste editing method could be used.
 
 
Also main menu 'Image'->'Masking'->'Show Inside Selection' and context menu.

Applies the red mask to the current selection, the subject image is unchanged.
 
Shift+I
Also main menu 'Image'->'Masking'->'Show All'

Disables the red mask and shows the subject image
 
Shift+A
Shrinks or grows the current selection  
"Magic background cleaner"

Works fine if the subject is in front of a nearly uniform background, like a blue or green curtain.
Move the mouse over the background: The background color will change. Click when it looks good. This will update the selection and apply the red mask if "Auto" is checked.
A context menu (right click) allows setting Tolerance.
The images to the right show a nose on a blue background with the mouse over the background, and the nose without background after clicking.
   
Selection Tools and Selection Type  
Click and drag to draw a rectangular selection. Use Shift for square.
 
 
Click and drag to draw an elliptical selection. Use Shift for circle.
 
 
Click and drag to draw a free-hand selection.
 
 
Click several times to define selection segments. Press ESC to cancel or Enter to close the contour.
 
 
These modifiers indicate how the current selection combines with the previous selection:
  • New selection
  • Add to previous selection
  • Subtract from previous selection
  • Intersect with previous selection
 
Feathering determines how selection contours will be processed to produce a smooth image.
The images to the right show no feathering and maximum feathering. The default value is 1px.

Edit->
  Cut
Cuts current image selection and puts it in the clipboard.
The cut area becomes transparent.
 

Ctrl+X
DEL key Sets current selection of the image to transparent DEL
  Cut and DEL apply to the image, not the red mask
 
 
Edit->
  Copy
Copies current image selection and puts it in the clipboard.
Ctrl+C
Edit->
 Copy Selection
Copies current selection into an internal clipboard.
 
 
Edit->
 Paste Selection
 
Replace current selection by  the internal clipboard content.
 
 
Image->
  Selection
Select Visible - Visibility means what is visible from the image on the screen. Shift+V
Select All Ctrl+L
Deselect Ctrl+D
Select Inverse

When you are done with red mask, you may update the image with
       Select Inverse, DEL, Select Inverse

Image->
  Crop
Subject, background and canvas are cropped to the current selection enclosing rectangle.
An attached animation may be fixed (prompt) to match the new canvas size.

Mouse cursor inside selection If the Selection Type is "New selection", dragging the mouse will move it.
